Guide

Why processors add rolling reserves.

A reserve is usually a processor’s way of managing future refund, chargeback, or delivery risk.

The important question is not only whether the reserve is painful. It is what the reserve says about the processor’s view of the merchant account.

Common triggers

Reserves usually come from a broader risk picture.

Processors may add reserves after seeing higher refund exposure, dispute pressure, delivery concerns, business-model mismatch, sudden volume movement, or unclear website and customer-support signals.

  • Chargeback or refund movement
  • Large changes in volume or ticket size
  • Weak refund, fulfillment, or support disclosures
  • Processor concern about the business model or offer
  • Documentation gaps during underwriting or account review

OmmPay can help review the account context before the merchant responds or makes the next processing decision.
